Form CP-575 is an IRS notice confirming that you have been granted an EIN (Employer Identification Number). If you don't receive this letter, you will receive its copy form, 147c. Both verification letters are valid to fill out federal tax forms such as Form 941, Form 940, and Form 1120.
The EIN is sometimes also referred to as FEIN or Federal Employer Identification Number.
The CP-575 letter includes important tax information about your business including your:
- EIN, a nine-digit number used for filing your federal payroll taxes
- Business name
- Business’ official filing address
- Federal tax forms your company is required to file
Therefore, the CP575 form, as well as the 147c letter, validates the entity formation under a particular company name, EIN, and owner's name. So once you’ve got it, be sure to keep it in a safe place.
