A 147c letter, also known as an EIN letter, is a form sent to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) so founders can request your Employee Identification Number (EIN) or, more specifically, so the Firstbase.io EIN team can verify a company’s EIN with your permission permission.
A 147c letter is not a request for the IRS to create an EIN; it only asks the IRS to tell you about an EIN that already exists. We will often ask the IRS to share the 147c letter as proof of the EIN as it is one of the forms of identification a bank will approve.
